Young entrepreneur

Just before his thirteenth birthday, Trevon didn’t have the money to contribute to his birthday party invitations.  So he made them himself. Now a senior at Beaufort High, Trevon is the 2015 South Carolina Young Entrepreneur of the Year.  He no longer just makes his own birthday party invitations. He currently owns and operates a graphic design business called Graphics by Trevon.  One of his CATE Business teachers, Tarsha Smith, nominated Trevon to compete against other students across the state. The state’s Young Entrepreneur Award was established in 2004 by SC Economics as a way to recognize outstanding elementary, middle or high school students for their accomplishments in entrepreneurship. Each year, SC Economics recognizes five elementary, middle or high school students who demonstrate a keen entrepreneurial spirit. These young people have met the challenge of starting their own businesses, understand the costs and benefits of working for themselves, and are willing to share their experiences with their peers.  Trevon and his family attended the annual awards banquet and the 24th Annual SC Ambassadors for Economic Development Event at the Governor’s Mansion, where Trevon was recognized by Governor Haley and Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.  He also competed at the 2015 Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in the desktop publishing category.
