Wayne Carbiener, Board of Education

Thousands of Beaufort County students have benefited from competitive cash grants awarded to their teachers by the Foundation for Educational Excellence.  Few people knew it, but a key catalyst for those grants was an annual donation from Wayne Carbiener, who passed away last week.  During his four-year term on the Beaufort County Board of Education, Carbiener quietly gave all of his $7,500 annual salary as a Board member to the foundation, which turned his donations into grants that funded special classroom projects proposed by teachers.  Carbiener was to have been recognized for his support at the foundation’s annual fundraiser next month.  “He was such a good man,” said Acting Superintendent Jackie Rosswurm. "He cared so much for children, and he expressed that in his diligent work as a school board member and in his generosity to the foundation."
