Tops in the kitchen

Fourth-grader Loncelle Daley practiced making smoothies when he got home in the afternoon from Red Cedar Elementary, sometimes substituting ingredients for those that proved hard to find.  His practice paid off when his Tropical Smoothie took top honors at the 2015 Sodexo Future Chef competition.  More than 50 students entered the competition, and Loncelle was one of 12 elementary school student finalists from across the district who prepared healthy snack creations for a panel of five judges who awarded points based on the recipes’ originality, taste, healthy attributes, plate presentation, ease of preparation and kid-friendliness.  Since he won the 2015 Future Chef competition, Loncelle has become a celebrity, appearing in news media reports and in a TV interview that’s currently airing on WHHI-TV.
