Thanks a ton

Whale Branch Elementary School has been recognized with a “Keep Beaufort County Beautiful” award from the county for its school-wide recycling program, which is run by students under the guidance of science lab teacher Erica Stevenson.  Every Friday morning, students collect recyclables from all of the classrooms, weigh the materials to be recycled and then place them in a recycle bin at the school.  So far this year, the students have managed to recycle more than a ton of plastic, paper and other items that would otherwise have gone to a landfill.  That helps the environment and saves money by diverting materials that would otherwise have to be transported to the landfill.  Added bonuses are the math and science lessons associated with the students’ project.  The award recognizing the program was presented by Beaufort County Solid Waste Manager Ed Minor.
