Taken by surprise

At Michael C. Riley Elementary School's annual 9/11 ceremony, longtime Bluffton resident Laura Bush was surprised when the ceremony also recognized her for 24 years of service on the Beaufort County School Board. Bush, who currently serves as the Board's secretary, got involved in her children's school PTO before being elected to the School Board in 1988.  She has served the Bluffton community during its significant growth and the addition of many schools. A 1962 graduate of Michael C. Riley High School, Bush has four children who attended district schools.  Of her four grandchildren, three currently attend district schools.
