Two Beaufort Middle
School students are engaging in active citizenship by asking the Port
Royal Town Council to alter rules that prohibit bikes at the Port Royal
skate park. In an effort to hone their skills and tricks on their BMX
Bikes, Chandler Phillips and Deavyn Powers are learning a thing or two
about how local government works. “We’ve had our BMX bikes for over a
year, and there’s nowhere else in town to practice,” Chandler says. The
two are optimistic that Port Royal Town Council will amend the rules
and establish times when bikes can be ridden at the popular park. Click
