National competitors

Four talented district students traveled to Orlando recently to compete in the 2015 Songham Taekwondo Fall Nationals. From left, they are ninth-grader Hunter Martin from H.E. McCracken Middle School (first-degree black belt, one of only 16 from across the country in his division, competed in four events and won a spirit award;  sixth-grader Maximus Weitekamper from McCracken Middle (purple belt, one of 21 competitors nationally to compete in his division, third place in Weapons Form and second place in Combat Sparring; second-grader Hanalyn Weitekamper from Hilton Head Island International Baccalaureate Elementary (green belt, one of 14 competitors nationally to compete in her division, first place in Form, first place in Combat Sparring, second place in Sparring and third place in Weapons Form; fifth-grader Elijah DeLeeuw from River Ridge Academy (red belt, one of 20 across the nation in his division, competed in four events and won four spirit awards).  The yellow stipe in the center of the students’ belts shows their participation in a leadership club.
