CSI, Beaufort Middle

Beaufort Middle sixth-graders Cameron Cook, Evan Fent, Cameron Kearney and Carlisle Salapare each won a $1,000 savings bond. Their science team, named Regular Guys, dedicated time after school and met on their own to conduct experiments from November to March. They experimented with invisible ink to simulate the capturing of evidence at crime scenes, which is similar to CSI Smartwater.   This initiative, called eCYBERMISSION, is sponsored by the U.S. Army’s Educational Outreach Program, and the BMS team was the top winner in the state. This is the first year the science club was offered, and it was led by teachers Chandra Payne and Jill Wilborn with special help from volunteer advisors Veronica Hunter and John Gilbert. Special thanks go to the police officers who allowed the students to present their idea: Andy Brub, Sean Alford and Stephanie Karafa.
