Bringing home the Cup

Hilton Head Island High School history teacher Todd White was a member of the 10-member Walker Cup team that represented the United States against 10 of the best amateur golfers from the Great Britain and Ireland.  Unlike most of his teammates on the Walker Cup fresh out of college or still in college, Todd brought a little maturity to the matches as he represented the mid-amateur category of the competition.  Todd is 45, and nearly all of his teammates were college-age athletes.  How did Todd and his teammates do?  They breezed past the defending team from Great Britain and Ireland and brought back the Walker Cup to U.S. soil.  In the first photo, Todd tees off on the third hole at the National Golf Links at Southampton, N.Y., during the Walker Cup foursomes match.   In the second photo, Todd shakes hands with former President George W. Bush as his teammates look on following a Walker Cup practice round.
