Class of 2017 college scholarship total
breaks record; schools graduate 1,288

BEAUFORT – The Beaufort County School District’s Class of 2017 has earned a record $38.3 million in college scholarships, and its members have acceptance letters in hand from more than 100 colleges and universities across the nation.

The 2017 scholarship total is the district’s fifth consecutive increase and a dramatic increase from $22.8 million five years ago.  District officials said the class of 2017’s total will increase as additional scholarship information continues to arrive.

“This record-breaking total reflects so much dedication and hard work, not only from our graduates but also from their families,” said Superintendent Jeff Moss.  “Their teachers and administrators and school staff can be justifiably proud, too.”

Seniors will receive their diplomas during graduation ceremonies that kick off tonight, beginning with Whale Branch Early College High.  All six graduation ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. in each school’s football stadium unless weather moves them indoors:

  • Friday, May 26 – Whale Branch Early College High

  • Wednesday, May 31 – Bluffton High
  • Thursday, June 1 – Battery Creek High
  • Friday, June 2 – Beaufort High
  • Saturday, June 3 – May River High
