Returning to her roots

In the early 2000s Sarah Hayes began making a name for herself as a star basketball player for Battery Creek High.  She also excelled in the classroom and was named Valedictorian of the Class of 2002.  Hayes went to Brown University on a full scholarship, and as their star player was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year as a freshman and Ivy League Player of the Year as a senior.  After playing professional basketball in Europe for five years, she returned to the U.S. to help coach the Carnegie Mellon University women’s basketball team in Pittsburgh.  These days, Hayes can be found at Battery Creek High, teaching World History during the day and helping to coach the varsity girls in the afternoons.  Her return to Beaufort has given her the chance to be back with her family and return to her roots.  What she loves most is “being able to influence young athletes and share her knowledge with them on and off the court.”
