April 21 Bond Referendum

The Beaufort County Board of Education has voted to hold a county-wide bond referendum on April 21 aimed at adding classroom space to address student enrollment growth in the southern part of the county and also address student interest in Career and Technology Education (CATE) courses.

If county voters approve, general obligation bonds not to exceed $76 million would be used to build additional classrooms at River Ridge Academy and May River High School, a new school in Bluffton, and new Career and Technical Education buildings at Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island high schools similar to current facilities at Battery Creek and May River high schools.

The menu at left features links to additional information, including the exact language that voters will see when they enter voting booths on April 21; a short Q&A that covers key facts on the referendum; a presentation that outlines the reasons for the referendum; an online tax calculator that lets voter calculate the referendum’s impact on their personal finances; and voter registration information.

If your group or organization would like a formal presentation, please email us.

Informational brochures about the referendum are available, free of charge, at the school district office, 2900 Mink Point Boulevard in Beaufort and under the "Referendum At A Glance" tab on the left.
